FACEBOOK V/S TWITTER – WHERE DOES BUSINESS HAPPEN?

Let us know basically what is Facebook and what is Twitter…

WHAT IS FACEBOOK?
Facebook is a free, popular, social networking website which allows users to get in touch with people all over the world who have registered themselves also on Facebook and connected themselves to each other, Basic features are, profile creation, uploading photos and videos etc.

WHAT IS TWITTER?
Twitter is a social online networking and a microblogging service that enables users to send and read short text messages, called “tweets”, hence from the word tweet comes the person who tweets – A Twitter.
Lets look at the key comparisons of these social sites to do business:

Almost 1.32 billion users are active on Facebook connecting to various people for fun, enjoyment, business, etc where as on Twitter it is generally the news feed that is used by the people. For your type of business, you need to analyse what kind of customers will be there to support your business. In Facebook there is a more casual approach to your business where as on Twitter there is a consistent streaming of news feed, where there are followers to the business, which can make the stream nosier and you may lose the content in this bargain.

On the other hand, the functions for search for Twitter is more easy, comfortable, robust, and are more valuable than that of Facebook. On Facebook search functions are mostly used for friends, sites, universities, etc whereas on Twitter there is a more business oriented search.

To put your post on Facebook, you may not need a lot of content, but a picturesque view will be beneficial, whereas on Twitter you need to have massive content, not in the initial stage, but you need to keep on feeding tweets often with some proactive interactions.
There is a line of distinction between personal and business on Facebook and Twitter, Twitter can connect you to all the accounts with your personal account, whereas on Facebook will not be able to proactively connect with peoples personal accounts. If you have a sufficiently large follower base on your profile you may use Facebook to leverage it.

On Twitter a major drawback is the tweets will flow down in order of the time, that means there are good chances that your business tweet may go down and may escape the eyes of the customer, you may need to pay for the tweets to be on top! To keep your product live there, you need to have more interactions, tweets, questioning answering etc. With Facebook, if you have good pictures, videos of your product, more likes, more shares, more comments can keep your post on the top. Sharing will also enable a larger audience, because your product can be seen to the ones you may not be connected to…

There are overall few basic factors which you need to consider (as discussed above) before you advertise your business on Facebook or Twitter, the easier way is to do it on both. If probably you need to choose between the two as on now, I believe you weightage would be towards Facebook, having large number active user that Twitter, most of your customers must be having a Facebook account, you also must be having a Facebook account, so a network is already established that you can exploit for your business.
